Distributed fiber optic shape sensing along shotcrete tunnel linings: Methodology, field applications, and monitoring results

چکیده
Abstract Deformation monitoring and structural reliability assessment are key components in modern conventional tunneling. The state-of-the-art design is usually based on displacement measurements of geodetic targets using total stations paired with pointwise geotechnical sensors inside the tunnel lining. In recent years, distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) has become more popular tunneling applications. DFOS basically deliver internal strain temperature distributions, but no direct relation to shape’s behavior. This paper introduces a novel evaluation concept, which combines readings for shape along curved structures, such as cross-sections. designed system was implemented into shotcrete cross-sections well shaft linings enables determination profiles high spatial resolution range centimeters. Evaluations continuous campaigns over several weeks epoch-wise performed by different units combination stochastic analysis demonstrate potential developed approach its capability extend traditional methods

متن کاملLong-Range Pipeline Monitoring by Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing
Distributed fiber optic sensing presents unique features that have no match in conventional sensing techniques. The ability to measure temperatures and strain at thousands of points along a single fiber is particularly interesting for the monitoring of elongated structures such as pipelines, flow lines, oil wells, and coiled tubing. Sensing systems based on Brillouin and Raman scattering are us...
متن کاملPolyamide Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete for Tunnel Application
This study intends to establish the mechanical properties of polyamide fiber reinforced shotcrete (PAFRS) in terms of compressive and flexural strengths, in accordance with ASTM C1609/C1609M-12. The mechanical properties identified the influence of polyamide fiber content on the PAFRS strength. This study evaluated the toughness of PAFRS and proposed additional toughness level criteria to bette...

متن کاملInfluence of the Tunnel Shape on Shotcrete Lining Stresses
Tunnel excavation is frequently carried out in rock masses by the drill and blast method and the final shape of the tunnel boundary can be irregular due to overbreaks. In order to investigate the effects of overbreaks a study of the effect of tunnel boundary irregularity has been carried out. This is done developing a computational tool able to take into account fuzzy variables (i.e., thickness...
